Our Pelvic Floor & Core Conditioning workshops are a series of 30-minute classes taught by Erin Sengel, FNP-BC, a certified family nurse practitioner, specializing in the human pelvic floor. She specializes in wellness, women’s health, and lifestyle medicine. Her focus is to help empower women with education on their bodies and how we can improve our daily lives with simple changes. Our mission is to provide you with an experience that will help you feel strong in your body!

So What Exactly is Pelvic Floor and Core Conditioning? We all know what the pelvic floor is and why it’s important, but we don’t always know how to effectively engage it. Your pelvic floor muscles are composed of levator ani, coccygeus, iliococcygeus, and pubococcygeus muscles. These muscles provide support for the organs located inside your pelvis including the bladder, uterus, rectum, and small intestines. They also influence sexual function, urinary control (urinary continence), and bowel function.  When working together with other abdominal muscles such as transverse abdominis or multifidus in a closed chain movement pattern they can also provide core stabilization for exercises like planks or hollow holds. This type of combination movement is often referred to as pelvic-floor-core conditioning which includes any exercise that requires engagement of these two systems simultaneously. During our workouts, you will be guided through exercises, breath work, postural and engagement work. This is beneficial for perinatal women and will help strengthen the pelvic floor, core, and muscles that can be taxed during this period.
